How To Keep A Diamond Ring Looking Like New
Your diamond engagement ring is not just a piece of jewelry, it's a symbol of your love and commitment. But over time, it can start to lose its shine and sparkle due to everyday wear and tear. That's why it's important to take good care of your ring to keep it looking new.
One of the most common issues that can affect the appearance of your ring is the buildup of hand creams and soap residue. This can make the diamonds look dull and less brilliant than they were when you first purchased the ring. Luckily, Lee Read has a solution that can aid in this problem. We provide our Guests with a lifetime supply of jewelry cleaner, which you can use at home to help keep your ring looking clean and sparkly. To use it, simply place your ring in the included basket and gently spin it in the cleaning solution for about a minute. If you feel that your ring needs more cleaning, you can leave it in the solution for a few hours to soak.
In addition to using our jewelry cleaner, there are other ways you can help keep your diamond ring looking new. For instance, it's best to avoid wearing it while cleaning, applying makeup, sleeping, working out, or even gardening. Household cleaners may contain bleach, which can cause pitting in your gold rings. Makeup can build up in your ring's crevices and cloud your diamonds, while the fabrics on your bed can wear down prongs and loosen stones. If you lift heavy weights while wearing your ring, it may bend and lose its shape, causing the stones to eventually fall out. Lastly, gardening can cause dirt buildup and potential damage from the use of tools and hard labor. We recommend taking your ring off and placing it in a jewelry dish or jewelry case as soon as you get home.
In addition to regular cleaning at home, it's important to have your ring inspected, maintained, and cleaned by a professional jeweler. At Lee Read Diamonds, we recommend a 12-month clean and check to ensure that your ring is in good condition and that none of the stones have become loose. During this process, we inspect your ring under 10X magnification to see if there is any needed repair work. That includes tightening any loose stones and checking to make sure there are no bent or broken prongs, missing side stones, or a bent bottom shank. After the inspection, we give your diamond ring a good cleaning, or what we call, a spa treatment. Spa treatments include refinishing your ring using a high-speed buff, cleaning it with an industrial ultrasonic cleaner that has a special cleaning solution, putting it under high heat and extreme pressure steam to reach the open and complex areas, and electroplating (dipping) your ring in a rhodium solution, which is a rare, metal with a natural, lustrous white color. Rhodium is only used for white gold rings or white gold jewelry to keep their bright, white appearance. While many jewelry stores charge up to $75 for a rhodium re-plating service, Lee Read offers it for free on any of our white gold jewelry, engagement rings, or wedding rings that were purchased from our store. Spa treatments can be done as often as you want to help keep your diamond ring looking new. We always look forward to seeing you.
