No wonder many people are wary about shopping for an engagement ring in a jewelry store and would rather roll the dice with a stranger that doesn't know anything about diamonds online. At least they aren't going to embarrass you in front of your fiance.
- A store with a “no money back policy” is a big red flag! This sounds bad and for you it is. However, the store making the sale loves it. Occasionally we all change our minds when we had a chance to think about things after we leave the store. You don’t get to change your mind here. The jeweler may offer a 30-day exchange but the no money back policy forces you to buy something from them. “Don’t need an engagement ring? How about an expensive watch?”
The first 2 items usually depend on the individual salesperson, but item three is almost always a written policy. When you see all 3 at the same store be very, very careful. My personal opinion is the stores that do business this way are either desperate for sales or it's because their ego is so big they feel they can get away with it. None of this is against the law, but it's certainly not great customer service.
